Our story

Founded by Hélène Bélanger-Martin, ROCCIA Gallery opened its doors on September 24, 2009, in the ExCentris Complex on St-Laurent Boulevard in Montreal. A few months later, the business moved to its own premises in Mile End, before relocating to Magog in 2016. After eight wonderful years in the Eastern Townships, the gallery made its grand return to Montreal in 2025, this time in the heart of Old Montreal.

Nestled in a spacious, light-filled area at 218 St-Paul West, 2nd floor, unit 200, the gallery embarks on a promising new chapter. Entirely dedicated to the works of painter and sculptor André Desjardins, the space also houses his studio. Located at the back of the premises, the studio is separated from the exhibition area by a wall. This proximity allows visitors to discover works in progress and, occasionally, to meet the artist in his working environment.

A unique space

Stepping into the gallery is an immersion into the artistic universe of André Desjardins. Paintings, sculptures, clay fragments, works in progress, sketches, studies, the artworks are not only displayed but also narrated. Whether through films showing the artist at work, books, texts on the walls, or sketchbooks tracing the genesis of a piece, visitors gain an intimate connection with his creative process.

A warm welcome

Stepping into the gallery also means being greeted by Hélène, the owner. A gallerist and filmmaker, Hélène is also the partner of André Desjardins. For over twenty years now, she has devoted herself wholeheartedly to the development of her beloved’s artistic career. Whenever the opportunity arises, she slips into André’s studio with her camera, observing in silence.

She has created three intimate films in the studio: two short films, Émotionnisme and Devenir, and a feature-length film, LIBRE. She also produces all the video content that André shares on his social media platforms. Hélène knows the story behind every work displayed in the gallery, and that is what she shares with visitors.

Stepping into the gallery is to live a unique and, we hope, unforgettable experience. You are all warmly welcome, it is truly a pleasure to greet you. See you soon!
