When we first imagined the “I’d Like to Be…” gatherings at the beginning of the summer, we knew this project by André was particularly close to our hearts. What we couldn’t have anticipated was the incredible enthusiasm it would inspire.

Throughout June and July, we dedicated nine of our 5 à 7 gatherings to presenting four new sculptures by André Desjardins. Four children, four personalities and four dreams for the future: to become a veterinarian, an acrobat or a pilot… or to dream of cleaning up the oceans.

These sculptures were created as part of a major project: they will eventually become monumental works installed in front of Hôpital de la Cité-de-la-Santé in Laval. The smaller versions are also available in bronze, each in a limited edition of 20, along with 4 artist’s proofs.

Nine evenings, more than 220 visitors and over 50 editions acquired. But beyond the numbers, it is above all the encounters and connections that will remain etched in our memories.

We watched visitors spontaneously connect with one child or another, share what a sculpture evoked for them, recognize a child, a grandchild… or sometimes even a part of themselves. It is precisely in moments like these that art takes on its full meaning.

To everyone who came to discover the works, who shared the project with others, who follows and encourages us, and to those who chose to welcome one of these little characters into their home: thank you.

The adventure has now entered a new chapter. After clay, the four children are continuing their transformation toward bronze.

And beginning September 17, something quite special awaits you at Galerie ROCCIA: all four sculptures will be presented in wax. In the gallery’s 17-year history, this will be the very first time we have exhibited sculptures at this stage of the process.

A rare opportunity to get a glimpse behind the scenes of bronze sculpture… and to follow these four children a little further along their journey before they head to the foundry. ❤️
