Nevada desert, 2009. I stumble across a tree stump. I calls out to me. I am still unsure of why, but I know it has to come home with me. I take it back to Montreal. It sits in my studio, staring at me, and one day, everything becomes clear. I see the outline of a dancing body. A woman’s body. It’s as if she rises from the earth and becomes one with the roots of the stump. The birth of my very first sculpture.
